Rasmussen Excavation was formed in 1973 by the late Donald and Rosalyn Rasmussen of Georgetown, NY. They began their business with a few necessary basics - a solid farm-boy work ethic, fair and honest business practices, a love for moving dirt, and CAT equipment!
With his son David by his side, Don began working for farmers, the Soil Conservation Service, and homeowners with their first machine - a 1956 CAT D6 bulldozer.
Leaving behind a growing trail of satisfied customers, demand for their expertise grew. By the mid-1980's they were employing 10 men, owned 10 CAT machines, and did a variety of residential, commercial, and municipal site work projects. In the early '90s, the excavation business branched into utility work involving storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water line construction.
Another change in the '90s was our sand and gravel business, Rasmussen Gravel Products LLC. Today we operate two active pits, and with a growing customer base, we provide local contractors, homeowners, and municipalities with quality abrasives, gravel, and stone products.
Following the passing of Don Rasmussen in 1997, David took over the entire operation of the businesses and has maintained the same level of integrity and quality workmanship as his father.

Following the passing of Don Rasmussen in 1997, David took over the entire operation of the businesses and has maintained the same level of integrity and quality workmanship as his father.
In 2004 we opened our first two equipment rental stores. Known as Rasmussen Rents, the stores are located in Binghamton and Canastota. Since then, we have added two satellite locations in Madison, ME, and Norwich, NY. These stores rent a wide variety of heavy equipment, attachments, and small tools to commercial customers, municipalities, school districts, hospitals, and homeowners. It is a growing business which complements our construction company nicely.
Today our companies employ 30 people, including our construction crews, equipment manager/salesman, mechanics, truck drivers, store managers, and office personnel. We are proud that our "key man" tenure is 25+ years. We are always looking for hard-working, honest people seeking employment in the construction industry.
We are convinced that our success is due to hard work, faithful and gifted employees, fair, honest, and upright practices, and the faithfulness of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Don and Rosalyn's legacy of integrity lives on and continues to make us proud to be part of this organization.

Growing up around construction and lots of CAT equipment, it was easy for Dave’s youngest son, Brent, to gravitate to the world of dirt moving. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the crew full time, rolled up his sleeves and started learning all he could about the family business.
His father and grandfather taught him to never say “no” to an opportunity for growing the business, so when given the opportunity to work as site developers for the rapidly-growing solar industry, Brent and Dave said “yes” and began what is now a specialized niche in the industry. Our solar work has taken us throughout New York State to work on projects ranging from small solar jobs to large 30 megawatt projects.
In an effort to manage the growth of this industry, Brent seeks advice from industry mentors and is eager to learn techniques and technologies that enhance efficiency and profitability. One of the things about
Rasmussen Excavation of which Brent is most proud is our people. By setting a high standard for our workforce, he manages jobs with quality employees who care about producing a quality product.
Brent envisions only good things for our future – always growing, learning and progressing as a company. His goal each day is to strive to maintain the valuable family legacy of integrity and quality workmanship which his father and grandfather worked so diligently to build.
